Urafiki Girls Organization began in 2014 as an initiative of 16 girls who had taken part in the Maisha Mema program under Amani Girls Home.
In 2017 those same young women began building an independent organization that would be led by girls and young women themselves, and focused on the issues that shape their lives.
UGO received its official NGO registration in 2021. Since then, we have focused on creating opportunities for girls and young women to gain practical skills, access reliable information, take part in leadership, and design their own solutions to the challenges facing their communities.
